Sam Lipman

Saying that Sam Lipman is a musician is like saying Martin Scorsese is a film-maker. Born and raised in Sydney, Sam performed many times in the Sydney Opera House as a violinist with the Sydney Youth Orchestra, and later as a singer with the Bach Camerata. He later turned to jazz and moved to New York where he spent eight years studying saxophone with Joe Lovano, and toured with Kurt Rosenwinkel. Sam then relocated to Austin, Texas, where he pursued a career in rock, singing and songwriting for his band The Handsome Charlies, as well as being a session musician, working with artists like Justin Timberlake and touring with rock icons Shearwater.
Most recently Sam went back to school to study orchestral and electronic composition and film scoring. He is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Composition at University of Texas, under the guidance of Yevgeniy Sharlat, Russell Pinkston and Bruce Pennycook. Sam most recently completed his first full-feature film soundtrack, the documentary Southwest of Salem, which has been highly awarded at this year's TriBeca Film Festival in New York. He continues to work on several new commissions and an ongoing television program, and travels Europe as the accompanist for the St. Stephens Madrigal Choir. Sam lives with his wife and two children in Austin, Texas. You can hear much of his work at
