Name
John Michael Hunt
Biography

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, John has spent most of his life in the urban metropolis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, home of the strip mall and high school football. He has musical background in jazz and classical saxophone with Donnie Staggs, Will Campbell and Chip Burris, piano with Susan Burkhart, Dr. Alice Brook, Amy Cheng, and Dr. Derek Lawrence, conducting with Jeff Jahnke and Dr. Matthew Mailman, and musical theater, studying voice with Florence Birdwell of Oklahoma City University, with additional background in acting and dance. He feels that his diverse background has given him a unique musical sensibility and that all of his varied experiences have been invaluable in together forming the musician and composer he is today.

John received a BM in Music Composition from Oklahoma City University under the watchful eye of Dr. Edward Knight, whose extensive experience contrasting with John's extensive lack of experience proved to be very, very helpful.

John has a particular interest in writing for video games, electronic media, and dance, as well as the concert media of the wind ensemble, chorus, and opera/music theater, although his works thus far have spanned several genres including song cycle, solo saxophone, string orchestra, solo piano, chorus, guitar, full orchestra, and various forms of electronic composition.

At the University of Texas, he has studied with Donald Grantham, Dan Welcher, Russell Pinkston, and is currently finishing his Master's thesis studying with Yevgeniy Sharlat.
