UT DMA student Steven Snowden received a fellowship from the Susan and Ford Schumann Foundation to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School in the Summer of 2011.  While at AMFS, Snowden studied with composers Syd Hodkinson and George Tsontakis, coached performers in rehearsals of his work, presented his compositions in masterclasses and participated in a reading with the Aspen Conducting Orchestra.  His string quartet Appalachian Polaroids was performed there by members of the Aspen Festival Orchestra.

On July 21st, Joel Love's score to the short film "Kidfellas" was selected as "Best Musical Score" from a pool of 25 of the top ranking films from the Houston 48-Hour Film Project.

Our own Robert Honstein (MM '07) was selected, by polling NPR and WQXR listeners, as one of 100 young composers under 40 years of age. It should be emphasized that Robert is WAY under 40!

CLUTCH packed the house last week for a terrific concert of new music by UT composers.  A critic for the Austin American Statesman was there and published this lengthy review.
